Why is a special LED transformer for 12V LED lights better?

When converting from halogen lights to spot led also represents always the question of whether to replace the transformer (or must) can continue to use the previous or halogen transformer. There are various reasons why a special 12V LED transformer is better than the old transformers for halogen lamps:

1 LED lights do not work on some halogen transformers

In many electronic transformers are minimum loads that must be achieved. Falls below the minimum load "thinks" the transformer that nothing is connected and not working properly. Because LED lamps consume much less than halogen spots often drop below the minimum load and the inevitable spotlight flashing or not lit at all.

2 LED lamps are very sensitive with respect to voltage spikes

With halogen transformers occur frequently spikes on the 12V out. Since LED lights are small in this respect Sensibelchen this can greatly reduce the life circumstances. Also include some manufacturer warranty on their LED lamps for operation with halogen transformers. To ensure a long service life of the transformer should therefore be replaced.

3 Halogen transformers such as toroidal transformers usually provide AC

Many LED lamps are internally provided with a rectifier. Supplied by the halogen transformer 12V AC (alternating current) are then converted to DC (direct current) in the spotlight. This voltage is then about 13-14V DC, so that the excess 1-2V is given in the form of heat. This may adversely affect the life, why the change to a suitable 12V DC LED transformer is advisable.
